Who we are:

We are a group of women- internally displaced people (IDPs) who come together to establish a women’s non-governmental organisation in Kutaisi, Western Georgia in October, 1997. Our group was created after the Georgian population had to flee Abkhazia as a result of the armed conflict in 1992-1993.

Our organisational mission:

Development of women’s activity through educational, legal, economic, social, cultural activities to increase women’s role in building a democratic society in Georgia, in the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Abkhazia, and achieving economic independence

Municipality Gender Equality Action Plan

Over the years, Fund “Sukhumi” has been actively working with local authorities to introduce the principles of gender equality. Various documents, manuals and methodical guidance were developed and issued.

This time the draft Gender Equality Action Plan of the municipality has been developed. It is an example, a model based on which the Action Plan can be elaborated taking into account the needs of local groups.

The Action Plan for the implementation of gender policy will contribute to the fair distribution of budgetary resources, the full inclusion of women and men in local processes.

Strategic guidance for local self-government – new publication of Fund “Sukhumi”

“Gender mainstreaming in municipalities – strategic guidance for local self-government – is the title of a new publication of Fund “Sukhumi”. It includes experts’ opinions and recommendations, collected from experiences of Georgia, including Abkhazia and Visegrad countries (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia).

The guidance is a methodical manual which will held local self-governments in incorporation of gender oriented policy. It includes the list of issues that are important for gender mainstreaming at local level.

The publication was developed within the framework of the project "Learning from the experience of Visegrad 4 to advocate for equal, inclusive and democratic local governance".

Gender Mainstreaming in Local Self-Government

One more important publication of the fund “Sukhumi” on actual issue: “Gender Mainstreaming in Local Self-Government”. It is a collection of the works of the experts from different countries, which aims at promoting gender policy in local government envisaging the experience of Visegrad countries and Georgia.

The researches were carried out in frames of the project “Learning from Visegrad 4 experience to advocate for equal, inclusive and democratic local governance”.

Multicomponent research

The first stage of the multicomponent research conducted within the framework of the project “Learning from Visegrad 4 Experience to Advocate for Equal, Inclusive and Democratic Local Governance” has been completed. Four experts from Georgia were involved in the research (the project is aimed at advocating for equal, inclusive and democratic local governance based on the best practices of the Europe countries).

Experts have submitted drafts of their themes. These are four independent themes relating different aspects of gender policy. After the completion of the research, there will be developed a policy strategy focused on the implementation of local governance reform and gender mainstreaming, which will be published and offered to society.
