Who we are:

We are a group of women- internally displaced people (IDPs) who come together to establish a women’s non-governmental organisation in Kutaisi, Western Georgia in October, 1997. Our group was created after the Georgian population had to flee Abkhazia as a result of the armed conflict in 1992-1993.

Our organisational mission:

Development of women’s activity through educational, legal, economic, social, cultural activities to increase women’s role in building a democratic society in Georgia, in the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Abkhazia, and achieving economic independence

A round table discussion on the topic “Introducing gender approaches in local policy” was held by Fund “Sukhumi” in the meeting room of Kutaisi City Council (Sakrebulo). Participants of the meeting were representatives of different services of local self-government, members of the Gender Equality Council.

A Strategic guidance on local gender policy, elaborated by Fund “Sukhumi”, was presented at the meeting. Participants discussed how, through which methods gender approaches should be introduced in Municipalities, what is gender audit and gender budgeting. 

Attendees mentioned, that gender approaches have already been introduced in the municipality and talked about an effective work of the Gender Equality Council.

The round table was held within the framework of the project "Learning from the experience of Visegrad 4 to advocate for equal, inclusive and democratic local governance.

A round table discussion on the topic “Introducing gender approaches in local policy (gender mainstreaming), was held by Fund “Sukhumi” in the meeting room of Khoni Municipal Council (Sakrebulo).

Members of the Gender Equality Council, representatives of local self-government and non-governmental organizations attended the meeting.

A Strategic guidance on local gender policy, elaborated by Fund “Sukhumi”, was presented at the meeting. The talk focused on the questions – what is necessary for the introduction of gender approaches in municipalities, what does gender budgeting means and why is it necessary.

Attendees stressed that the municipality has good prerequisites for working in this direction: the local social strategy and action plan. The tendency to implement socially sensitive programs, focus on the practice of identifying needs, long-term services that meet needs of vulnerable groups and ensure citizens’ involvement - these are the issues that are the cornerstone of gender-oriented policies.

Discussions on the "introducing gender approaches at the local level", organized by the Fund "Sukhumi", were held in the hall of the Vani Municipality Sakrebulo (Municipal Council). The representatives of the legislative and executive governments of the local municipality and the members of the Gender Equality Council attended the meeting.

The talk mainly focused on the manual for gender strategies at the local level, developed by the Fund "Sukhumi"; In particular, how to introduce gender mainstreaming at the local level, what should the people working in this field pay attention to, what is gender budgeting and why it matters.

The participants of the discussion stated that the formation of gender policy in the municipality is at the initial stage, therefore, they would continue to actively cooperate with the Fund "Sukhumi" in this regard.

A round table was held on the topic "introducing gender approaches at the local level", organized by the Fund "Sukhumi" in the conference hall of the City Hall of Tskaltubo Municipality. The representatives of the legislative and executive governments of the local municipality and the members of the Gender Equality Council attended the meeting.

The talk mainly focused on the manual for gender strategies at the local level, developed by the Fund "Sukhumi". Klara Kozlova, an expert from the Czech Republic took part in the round table meeting. She spoke about gender audit and the experience existing in the Czech Republic in this regard.

The City Mayor and the Chairperson of Sakrebulo (the City Council) expressed their readiness to cooperate with the Fund "Sukhumi" in order to establish gender approaches in the municipality.
