A round table discussion on the topic “Introducing gender approaches in local policy (gender mainstreaming), was held by Fund “Sukhumi” in the meeting room of Khoni Municipal Council (Sakrebulo).
Members of the Gender Equality Council, representatives of local self-government and non-governmental organizations attended the meeting.
A Strategic guidance on local gender policy, elaborated by Fund “Sukhumi”, was presented at the meeting. The talk focused on the questions – what is necessary for the introduction of gender approaches in municipalities, what does gender budgeting means and why is it necessary.
Attendees stressed that the municipality has good prerequisites for working in this direction: the local social strategy and action plan. The tendency to implement socially sensitive programs, focus on the practice of identifying needs, long-term services that meet needs of vulnerable groups and ensure citizens’ involvement - these are the issues that are the cornerstone of gender-oriented policies.
